Meet the Mermaids: Rachel

Every great adventure starts with someone's dream. Today, we're thrilled to sit down with the dreamer behind Grit & Grace Studio, Rachel, on her birthday to chat about the G&G adventure, what it means to have grace, and so much more.

When Rachel began turning her dream for Grit & Grace Studio into a reality, she had no idea of the community that would build around this small business.

We are so proud of our compassionate, strong leader! Rachel's creative energy, vision, and empathy are the driving forces behind Grit & Grace, and we're grateful for her friendship and support.

Happy birthday to our favorite Capricorn, passionate ocean advocate, and captain! May this next trip around the sun be filled with magic, peace, and blessings.

Grit & Grace Family: Rachel

What led you to start Grit & Grace Studio?

Grit & Grace was born from my desire to honor my mother's legacy of strength and grace.

When her 16-year battle with cancer ended in 2012, I knew that my life's work would somehow honor and celebrate her essence.

Why do you refer to the staff at Grit & Grace Studio as a family?

We are a group of individuals and artists that are not only navigating our work lives together, we are also navigating this thing called life.

We have each other's back through thick and thin, through marriages, babies, moves, celebrations, and grief.  We deeply care for each other and nurture one another at and away from work.  That’s what makes us a family.

What’s your go-to piece of Grit & Grace jewelry by season?

What does having β€œgrit and grace” mean to you?

Grit & Grace refers to a spiritual path that honors strength, courage, and resolve while embracing grace and forgiveness.

Your best friend is visiting from out of town. Where are you going to dinner, and what Grit & Grace earrings will you wear?

We are swinging by the Citrus Club for a sunset champagne toast and then walking over to FIG for the main course. I will be wearing Kiawah Earrings and a Wish Bead Bracelet.

You’re planning a relaxing day on Sullivan’s Island. Where are you heading, and what’s in your Renewable Fiber Beach Tote?

First, I’ll be lunching at Obstinate Daughter, then biking around the harbor, maybe visiting Mickey Williams Art Studio if he’s in, and definitely visiting Ashley at Goldbug.  Then, I’ll head to the beach for a rest and maybe a sunset walk.  You will find a Turkish towel, Harmless Harvest coconut water, and The Four Agreements in my beach tote.

What are three things people may not know about you?

That I’m actually an introvert, I’m scared of the color red, and in my former career, I was a wedding dress designer.

What’s on the horizon for Grit & Grace Studio?

I truly believe the sky is the limit for Grit & Grace. We have just gone through a massive growth year, and we are headed to the market in Atlanta next week.

When we get back, I plan to take a little time for renewal, then there is a creative project that I am so excited to sink my teeth into.  I’ve had an idea brewing for over two years now, and I have decided it is ready to be unleashed. Stay tuned! It will be delicate, beautiful, and, as always, sustainable.
