Meet the Mermaids: Gail

Nothing in this world compares to an old friend, and Gail is an invaluable friend to Grit & Grace Studio.

This OG team member joined our team back in 2018! Few people have such in-depth, first-hand knowledge of the Grit & Grace adventure, and it's been a joy and privilege to have her on board through all the trials and triumphs these last 4 years.

It's also been our honor to share in so much of Gail's personal journey. We've watched her grow, pursue her passions, embrace motherhood, and continue to challenge herself.

This sweet, patient woman is a quiet force of nature, amazing mother, and warm friend to all who pass through our studio. We are so excited to feature her on today's Meet the Mermaids profile.

Gail, you brighten our days simply by being present, and we are so lucky to call you not just a friend but family. We are grateful for your sunny smile, gentle ways, brilliant mind, and open heart.

Grit & Grace Family: Gail

You’re one of the OG mermaids here. When did you join the team, and how have you seen Grit & Grace Studio grow since you came on board?

I joined the G&G team in 2018, but it still feels like yesterday.

Beyond witnessing the physical location of the studio bursting at the seams with product, expanding from one room, to two, to three, to a whole new beautiful space, I’ve seen G&G take on new faces and new ideas in a journey toward a bonafide company and not just a local stop.

What’s your role at Grit & Grace Studio? What are your favorite parts about your job?

I've dipped my hands into a lot of roles at Grit and Grace, but recently I've loved dealing with wholesale orders and production.

I love creating pieces of art and then seeing them go into a box shipped into someone else's life. It's magical and cool to know what I do may very likely be a dear gift for someone for years down the road.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

You can usually find me at a brewery or a bakery with my son, Bear, and my two dogs. Or at home reading.

Your son Bear is a beloved part of the G&G Flagship. What are his favorite baby products that we carry in the store?

The tents. After Bear flirts with all of his G&G gals (whom he thinks are there just for his entertainment), he likes to snooze under a tent.

Being a mom means it takes a bit more effort to carve out some time for self-care. What are your favorite ways to self-care after the holidays?

Light a candle (lavender usually), pour a beer, and read a good book with my dog or my baby snoozing on my lap.

You’ve got a babysitter for the evening. Where are your top three favorite spots for a date night around town, and what G&G earrings will you have on?

The perfect date night means snacking/boozing in this order: Bar George, The Glass Onion, Moe's Crosstown, and The Warehouse. If we don't make it to all of those, it just means the food and drinks at one were too good to leave. I've always loved the Rainbow Row Earrings. I have a sage and pearl pair. I think of The Rolling Stones "She's Like A Rainbow" song every time I wear them.

Where are your three favorite places to watch a Charleston sunset?

Lately, it’s been at Brittlebank Park. There’s a large patch of grass there that is a surreptitious off-the-leash dog romping ground. I love watching the sunset while my pups get to play with fellow locals.
