Meet the Mermaids: Mary Beth

We are still on cloud nine after an amazing grand opening celebration for our new location at 125 King Street in the historic Tellis Pharmacy location! As we catch our breath and reflect, we realize we would be remiss not to take a moment to highlight the members of our incredible team.

It truly takes a village, and we are deeply grateful for our Grit & Grace family members. Where would we be without someone to lend a helping hand, keep us laughing through life's ebbs and flows, or help us leap over the giant stack of boxes to be shipped? (Trapped under a pile of FedEx boxes, that's where.)

Let us introduce you to Mary Beth, our perpetual ray of sunshine, our voice of reason, and an incredibly talented calligrapher. We're so blessed to have called this lovely lady family for coming up on 4 years, and today we're catching up on her favorite G&G products, brunch spots, and guilty pleasures.

Grit & Grace Family: Mary Beth

Tell us a bit about how you came to join Grit & Grace Studio.

I was introduced to Grit & Grace and Rachel through my daughter, Jenna, and I joined the team nearly four years ago.

What’s your role at Grit & Grace?

I play lots of roles at G&G from greeting our guests to painting and constructing our many products and our custom calligraphy inscriptions.

What are your favorite G&G products to make?

I enjoy making all of our products, but my favorite is our beautiful oyster garland and the Edisto Necklace.

What’s the best part about being a part of the Grit & Grace family?

The best part of being part of the G&G family is getting to know and working with such sweet young ladies. I also love seeing the reaction of our customers when they purchase a product that we all have so lovingly made.

Tell us three of your guilty pleasures.

My guilty pleasures are shopping, spending the day in my pj’s, and good margaritas.

One of our favorite sayings is “No grit, no pearl.” What does this mean to you?

Sometimes to get to the pearl in our lives or work, we have to be strong and endure a little pain from the grit or obstacles that we may encounter.

Someone is visiting Charleston for the first time. What are your top three brunch recommendations?

My brunch spots are Millers All Day, Lost Dog Cafe at Folly Beach, and Big Bad Breakfast.

You’re dressing up for a night on the town. Where do you go, and what Grit & Grace jewelry will you have on?

My husband and I would definitely be going out to dinner at one of the many, many great restaurants in Charleston like Fleet Landing or Hall’s Chophouse, and I would be wearing the Seabrook Earrings.
