Ranky Tanky Grammy-Award Albums

from $20.00

Ranky Tanky’s beautiful sounds are born of the Gullah music from the Southeastern Sea Islands, and their tunes are simply good for the soul. This Charleston-based quintet just won their first Grammy award for Good Time, their second album. Gifted local musicians Quentin Baxter, Kevin Hamilton, Quiana Parler, Clay Ross, and Charlton Singleton create sweet, soul-stirring sounds to fill your home with joy and peace.

The Southeastern Sea Islands are a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean coast of the Southeastern United States. They are home to the Gullah people and the birthplace of the Gullah culture, a rich, deeply rooted culture marked by resilience and distinctive African influences.

NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross and the TODAY Show both featured Ranky Tanky’s debut album, Ranky Tanky. Ranky Tanky also soared to the #1 position on the Billboard, Amazon, and iTunes Jazz Charts. Playful songs, ecstatic shouts, and heartbreaking spirituals can all be found on their latest release Good Time, which also offers the group’s first original songs inspired by the Gullah tradition.
